A •2• for FREE!
And a FREE SAMPLE, too!

The phrase "Tea for Two" didn't originate with the 1925 song of the same name. Tea for two originally was called out in the marketplace...it was an offer of tea for two pence — not for two people.

In 1894, the first Lyons Tea Shoppe opened at Piccadilly Circle in London and made a name by offering a pot of tea for two pence, or a "tuppence" coin. As the English say, this was good value for money, even in those days. At Tuppence Tea, we aim to carry on the tradition of offering good quality teas at very reasonable prices.

We can't offer you much tea for a tuppence these days, as the coin is currently only worth about three cents or so here in the Colonies. In fact, we’ll turn the tradition around and give you the tuppence… a real English tuppence, and a free sample of the tea of your choice, with every tea order of just $10 or more! That's two pence (one coin) and a free sample. Got it?

And right now, for a limited time, ALL of our teas are 20% off the listed price. All $5 bags of Tuppence Tea are just $4.

Look over our tea pages, and order just $10 worth of tea — then return here and tell us which tea you want to sample for free!

Tuppence Tea is a real bargain!

A pound of most tea varieties will provide 240 or more cups when brewed at a reasonable strength. Compare this output with a pound of coffee, which may yield about 80 cups. On a cost per cup basis, $22 per pound tea is a better value than $10 per pound coffee. At Tuppence Tea, most of our teas can be enjoyed full strength for less 10 cents a cup!

All of our teas (blacks, greens, oolongs, whites, herbal and fruit varieties) are sold for $5 per package, most of which contain 100 grams (3.53 ounces) of quality teas. The amount of tea per package is clearly shown next to each variety.

A Trip to the Supermarket

I have to admit that I'm sometime amazed when I see what people are paying for the convenience of teabags! The biggest selection in our town is at the Fred Meyer store, owned by Kroger, currently the nation’s largest grocery store chain.

When I checked recently, the store had Twinings teas priced at $3.29 for a package of 25 1.8 gram teabags. This is 50 grams of tea, or just under 1.8 ounces. At this level, the tea is priced at $30 per pound. The Bigelow choices had smaller bags, so your $3.29 only bought 1.18 ounces of tea, or the equivalent of about $45 per pound. The Stash teas, in smaller bags still, looked less expensive at $3.15 but you only ended up with .63 ounces of actual tea. At these prices, the Stash tea is $80 per pound! Of course, I have to admit that the Stash tea was "on sale" that day at two packages for $5.00. Such a bargain… only $63.50 per pound.

At Tuppence Tea, most of our teas are priced at about $22 per pound (quite a bit less in the larger sized bags) and we offer superior quality and a much wider selection of tea choices conveniently delivered right to your door. Most serious tea drinkers agree that loose leaf teas are often of higher quality and have a better taste than the majority of the tea bag choices. And it may be just what the doctor ordered!

Tuppence Tea…. a whole lot of really excellent tea for the money!
