The table above shows which teas are shipped each month for the corresponding club program you choose. Click on any tea "link" to see a description of that tea, including the net weight of tea in each bag: most bags contain 100 grams (3.53 ounces), some 80 grams (2.82 ounces).

We'll ship your first month's tea as soon as you sign up (or whenever you instruct us) along with your free silver-plated tea strainer and tuppence coin.

Subsequent shipments are sent to you (or a friend, if you choose) around the middle of each subsequent month. (Orders delayed until the month of December will be mailed in time for Christmas.)

When you make your selection, you can decide to receive a shipment every other month rather than every month. If that means there is a favorite tea that you will miss out on because it will fall in a "skipped" month, you can click on it and order it now, along with the every-other-month club program choice, and get free shipping in the USA. (International Tea of the Month Club orders will be charged a separate fee up front to cover increased shipping costs to their country. Immediately prior to the first month's shipment, the additional charge will be added to the amount calculated by the on-line shopping cart.)

Finally, we should mention here that you can choose to have us include in the first shipment a beautiful greeting card conveying your hand-written personal message...just tell us what to write when you specify your club program.

English Traditional (see table, above, for shipping schedule)

When most people think of tea, they think of England. Of course, there are no such things as "English teas" per se, as it is far too cold for the tea plant to grow in the British Isles. However, in addition to consuming more tea per capita than any other country in the Western world (save Ireland, that is) the English have had a huge impact on the tea trade over the years. Therefore, tea and England seem to go hand in hand—or perhaps leaf in cup.

All traditional English Teas are black or on the darker side of oolong. Most are unflavored, although some are blended and others have a bit of flavor (like Earl Grey) added. All are good, strong, full-bodied teas. At Tuppence Tea, we have selected some of the best black teas, one's that our English friends would be most likely to describe as "real tea."

Favorite Flavors (see table, above, for shipping schedule)

Almost from the beginning, tea blenders have been adding flavors of various sorts to tea. In general, tea will readily absorb flavors and aromas and therefore makes it fairly easy to create new taste sensations. In fact, we encourage you to try your own hand at tea blending.... you might end up with your very own "signature tea".

Technically, there are two primary ways to flavor tea. The first and oldest technique is scenting, wherein flower blossoms are introduced into the tea leaves until they lose their aroma and then are removed. This process can be repeated as many as a dozen times, until the tea leaves have absorbed much of the scent. The flavors are delicate and I believe much of the perceived taste is from the aroma. China Rose and Jasmine Blossom are two examples of such teas.

The more common flavoring technique is by spraying a very fine mist of natural oils or other flavor essences on the tea itself. Most of the fruit flavored teas are created in this manner. Some have small bits of dried fruit left or flowers added to the mixture, but this is often done more for aesthetic reasons than for how it affects overall flavor.

New Traditions (see table, above, for shipping schedule)

Herbal teas aren't really from the tea plant and are sometimes called "tisanes" to distinguish them from the true teas. Regardless of the name, however, herbals can be very pleasant and healthy beverages and have no caffeine. Our New Traditions selections include some of the most popular herbals, including "red bush tea" from the Rooibos plant of South Africa. Rooibos has more anti-oxidants than nearly any other plant on earth.

We've also added some of the new fruit teas which are sweeping Europe in popularity. Naturally just a little bit sweet, they are nice when hot but great served over ice without the need for additional sweeteners. Like the herbals, they are caffeine free.

In China, Japan and indeed most of Asia, far more green teas are consumed than black. While still from the tea plant, the greens usually have about half the caffeine of the blacks. In our New Traditions selections, we have added some of the more popular green teas into the mix.
